Timber In The City
Arc 352 | Complexity
The Timber in the City was an ACSA competition to design a mid-rise, mixed used complex with residential, bike share shop, wood production, and digital production in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The concept behind this project was the innovation in wood design while still creating a spectacular view of the city. Having the wood production and digital production on the lower floors created a base for the residential spaces. The residential prefabricated units are made of cross-laminated timber panels; with prefabricated units this allows for a form that generated views from every residential balcony. An ordering system is created by using a specific kind of wood material for units with a different number of rooms. With innovation wood design in mind, a glulam mesh was designed in the court area to provide people with shade and attention to the aesthetically pleasing wooden structure.
