The Alma Colorado Addition was as a freelance residential project in Park County, Colorado. As Alma is one of the highest incorporated municipalities in the United States with permanent residents, the project was sited atop the Mosquito Mountain Range at an elevation of 10,637 feet above sea level. The design needed to contend with intense snow loads up to 180psf; the project included a new roofline with prefabricated trusses and engineered wood joists. The building addition was designed with a concrete structure for a two-door garage on the ground level and a wood frame structure with an office, two bedrooms, and two baths on the first floor. Revit was used to verify beam and column placement with the client and structural engineer. The result is increased savings for the client in time and money, as well as less confusion for when the project is constructed. The addition was completed in a series of various bid packages so the design could be built as the client needed, including drawings that were divided into foundations, framing, interior work, and façade packages.
